Accounts & tax

Formed the company. Now who does the accounts?

Every limited company must file annual accounts, a Corporation Tax return and a confirmation statement — with real penalties for getting it wrong. Our sister practice, NumberCrunch, handles all of it from £49 a month + VAT.

Why founders choose us

Spend your time building the business, not filing forms.

The best founders we work with realised early that their time is worth more on the business than on HMRC's website. Hand it to NumberCrunch and it's simply handled — every deadline hit, your tax bill as low as it legally should be, and a named accountant on the end of the phone whenever you need one.

Most people appoint us in their first few months, while everything's still simple and easy to set up right. Start clean, sleep well, and never think about a filing deadline again.

Questions founders actually ask

Who is NumberCrunch?

NumberCrunch is a separate accountancy practice under common ownership with Company Assist. Same team, same Bolton building. That's why the handover is seamless — we already hold your company details and your deadline dates. We have a financial interest in NumberCrunch, so we benefit if you become a client. Use them or don’t — your Company Assist deadlines are tracked either way.

When do I need an accountant?

There's no legal requirement to appoint one. Most founders do it in the first three months, because Corporation Tax registration falls due within three months of starting to trade and it's easier to start clean than to unpick a year of guesswork.

What if my company isn't trading yet?

You still have to file — dormant accounts and a confirmation statement every year. The Start-up plan from £49/month + VAT covers you while you get going. Move up to the Limited company plan whenever you start trading.

Which accounting software do I get — FreeAgent or Xero?

Whichever you prefer. FreeAgent is included free on the Self-employed and Limited company plans. If you’d rather use Xero, Company Assist gives you six months free and NumberCrunch supports it fully. Both are ready for Making Tax Digital and both connect to your bank feed. Already set one up? Keep it — nobody is going to make you migrate.

Is the confirmation statement included?

NumberCrunch files it as part of your plan. If you've already bought the standalone service from Company Assist for £74.99, tell them on the call so you're not paying twice.

Can I switch from my current accountant?

Yes. NumberCrunch writes to them for professional clearance and handles the transfer of records. It's routine and costs you nothing.

Is the fee tax deductible?

Accountancy fees incurred for the business are generally an allowable business expense. Your circumstances may differ — worth asking directly on the call rather than relying on a website.
